Did anyone not notice?

The title heading under our title read: Musings on fashion, current events and lives are women.

Umm hello!?!  So I changed it because that was not what we meant.  and have you seen this?  witandwhimsy.com
I'd say she stole our idea but I think we just borrowed hers.  I had no idea she existed.  But now I do.

Have been feeling the heat?

If you live anywhere on Planet Earth, you probably have been asked about the NAS-TAY weather this mother is having!  I'm tired of talking about it.  So I've decided to blog about it.  Next.

I had a post marked in my mind and then life took over and crapped it out of my fabulous brain.  But J and I apologize for our lack of posts.  I am not really sure if we have readers other than us and 2 others.  But if you are out there, I'd kinda like to know.  It'll motivate this ass to get off itself and satisfy the masses.

I do have one product recommendation: facial cleansing wipes.  Now I've only tried a few: Ponds, Neutrogena and Garnier Fructis.  Garnier is BY far my favorite.  I like the pretty green package and the smell.  I've not had break outs like I did from the Neutrogena.  I like how the wipes are waterless and can take off the toughest mascara without adding wrinkles to the delicate eye area or pulling out what little lashes I have.  If you're interested in what exactly this product is all about (esp since I am too tired to type it all out, go here: http://www.garnierusa.com/_en/_us/our_products/product.aspx?tpcode=OUR_PRODUCTS^PRD_SKINCARE^NUTRI_PURE^NUTRI_PURE_DISCOVER^NUTRI_PURE_RTN1&prdcode=P10006).  Try it.  You'll like.  You'll see.

Summer reading

Last week I posted about my summer must-have beauty products (I love the colors!!). BTW, I'm sporting hot pink eyeliner today. LOVE it. That was part 1 of my summer essentials, part 2 is summer reading. When I was in Grad school, the summer is when I caught up on all the "fun" books I didn't have time to read during the school year. I'm no longer in school, but I don't see why the tradition of fun summer reading has to stop :)

So, visit your local library and check out these books:
Smokin' Seventeen  by Janet Evanovich. This is number 17 in a series about a bounty hunter in New Jersey. Stephanie Plum is one of my all time favorite fictional characters. She is nutty, irreverent, and she gets herself into impossible situations. Many years ago, my Grandma got me hooked (which is a shocker, if you've read any of the books in the series - did I mention they are completely irreverent??) and we now have a tradition of reading them at the same time (in different states) and then getting on the phone to laugh about all the crazy stuff that happens. I wouldn't recommend sharing them with you mom or reading these books in public (I read one a plane once, oh my, I got some funny looks because I LAUGH OUT LOUD when reading these books).

The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. I read this book a few summers ago, after a particularly hard semester (which is maybe why I remember it?). I love mysteries, I love books about complicated families. This book is both. It is a great story. If you like this one, you might like The Forgotten Garden, and The House at Riverton and The Distant Hours by Kate Morton. Read them now!

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. I love stories that are set around historical events. This book takes place during the German occupation of the Island of Guernsey during WWII. Its about the power of books, especially during dark times.

And finally, the best book I read this year: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson. This book is not for everyone - it has some graphic violence, and a pretty sad story. But I love this book. Here is an overview from the publisher: "An international publishing sensation, Stieg Larsson's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo combines murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue into one satisfyingly complex and entertainingly atmospheric novel.
Harriet Vanger, a scion of one of Sweden's wealthiest families disappeared over forty years ago. All these years later, her aged uncle continues to seek the truth. He hires Mikael Blomkvist, a crusading journalist recently trapped by a libel conviction, to investigate. He is aided by the pierced and tattooed punk prodigy Lisbeth Salander. Together they tap into a vein of unfathomable iniquity and astonishing corruption."

Whether you are on the beach, or taking a stay-cation, grab a book!

Summer must - haves

If you know me, you know I love color - especially when it comes to makeup and clothes. Summer is a perfect time to embrace bright color - teal, turquoise, hot pink, purple. If you are looking to add a little color, here are some great places to start!

Add a little sparkle to your eyes with Stila Sparkle Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner. Line your upper lashes, and you are ready to go! It is waterproof, so its perfect for a pop of color along the lower lash line as well.

Try a new nail color! I love Nicole by OPI colors this year (Target has the best selection). They are so bright and happy. Today I'm sporting this:

Another fun nail trend to try is shatter polish. I've read tons of reviews and settled on OPI shatter. I've had the best success with the black shatter  - it looks great under hot pink polish! It also comes in silver, turquoise, blue, navy, red, white.

My favorite makeup line, Urban Decay  makes adding color easy. Grab a tube of their award winning eyeshadow primer in Greed (shimmery gold color), pick up their Fun Palette which is packed full of brightness, and make sure you remember a makeup setting spray (it really works! Promise.) Don't forget to treat your lips to some color. I'm loving UD's Lip Junkie Lip Gloss in Crush and Midnight Cowboy.

What are some of your summer favorites?
