Interviewing for a job has to be the most FRUSTRATING thing on the planet. I'm am so sick of it! It helps that I'm not in dire need of a job right now (thank goodness! so lucky), but the time it takes to apply for a job, write a cover letter, gathering supporting docs and then wait for a response is a drain. 97% of the applications I've filled out result in NO RESPONSE what so ever. I get it, people are busy, have to do more with less, but would a response kill you? Then, when I finally do get interviews, I think they go SOO well, and leave with promises that I'll hear in a few weeks, only to wait MONTHS for a rejection. I get it, I'm not the most qualified person out there. My Master's in Sociology and Women's Studies are not disciplines much in demand these days. But gosh, I'm capable! I wouldn't apply for the job if I wasn't. Give me a chance!!
So today, I'm off to another interview. My first second interview actually. For a job that would be fun, with a commute that would not kill me. I'm trying to be hopeful, but my record for success is not great. But none the less, I've put on my big-girl pants, fancy scarf, killer heals, I am dressed to impress. Wish me luck! If I don't get this job, I think I quit :)
It really bothers me it that people don't even send a quick rejection or the position has been filled form email. It would take less than a minute and would help ease the agony of waiting! Not that I experience this personally, but vicariously through Matt. And it's still awful :) Good luck at your interview.
ReplyDeleteThanks Michelle! I think it went well? Who knows :) Sorry Matt has to deal with the same thing - its crazy.
DeleteThe whole no response at all thing is a sign of no manners. Like, we want a jillion things from you, give it all to us, then--- wait for it, nothing. So obnoxious. You wouldn't want to work for them anyway. Good luck today!
ReplyDeleteFinding a job is not what it used to be. It's so impersonal now, and employers are rude and thoughtful when it comes to response times. Nowadays, it's hard to even get in the door to interview because no one want to get applications in person anymore - everything is online and totally impersonal. So good for you for even getting the interviews! hope this one went well for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks ladies! I have the best friends :) The thing that REALLY gets me, as I think about this, is that I've filled out no less than 100 applications/cover letters/resumes/transcripts/writing samples/references this past year. Which resulted in 3 interviews. The 3 interviews I got were from knowing someone at the company or knowing someone who knew someone and would recommend me. If this is the hiring of the future, then gosh, its pointless to apply any other way!
