Virtue

this will be post 1 of 2 today from me.  as i was getting ready this morning, I realized that this was something I HAD to write about.

Whenever I heard the word "virtue", it would often make me think of old British ladies in the time of Jane Eyre telling young girls, "Don't let the young chap steal your virtue".  If you look up virtue in any dictionary, it is defined as "moral excellence.  A virtue is a positive trait or quality subjectively deemed to be morally excellent and thus valued as a foundation of principle and good moral value." (Source: Wikipedia).

I follow an anti-pornography group on Facebook called Voices for Virtue.  A video was recently posted by another follower on Facebook about a woman named Dawn Hawkins who is executive director for an anti-pornography non-profit, Morality in Media.  (The MiM website has been shut down due to many hacking attempts).  She posted a YouTube video about her recent experience on a Delta flight she took from Baltimore to Detroit, where she witnessed a man viewing extremely violent child-themed porn on the flight.  No one said anything to this man.  Seriously?  Ms. Hawkins is suffering severe backlash for standing up to this and the video on YouTube has over 20,000 dislikes and threats have been made against her LIFE!  WHAT?!  You are joking, right?  I have always known that pornography is going to be the downfall of mankind, socially and morally.  What has been a sick habit done in secret, is now done openly in public.  Adult porn viewed by adults is one thing but child porn?  Crimes against children are the most abhorrent, disgusting, vile sicknesses of our time.  Adults are supposed to protect children, not victimize them.  We have enough ill-will in this world why attack the most innocent of God's creations?  I am outraged.

  1. Thanks for posting! I recently read something about a flight attendant who wanted to know what was proper if she found a customer on a flight watching porn. The comments ranged from basically - mind your own business - to - its only a problem if it can be seen by others who are offended by it or if a child can see it. WHAT?!! Why doesn't the airline have a policy in place against this?? And child pornography is illegal. He should have been arrested, instead of this courageous woman drawing attention to this very serious issue. Thanks for posting about this Trixie!

  2. Porn has become main-stream, BIG time in our culture. It's so sad. It's joked about all the time on sitcoms and other tv dramas, and the way it's talked about, it is just as normal as a habit as drinking coffee every day. It used to be a habit done in secret, and those dirty mags could only be picked up in sleazy, dim-lit shops, with the man hoping that no one saw him going in or coming out. Now, it's available to anyone in their home, anytime they want, AND it's presumed by the common culture that all men do it, AND that it's totally okay. Yeah - it's NOT okay. As far as we've come as women when it comes to getting rights and respect, the porn industry shows how little we've advanced in many aspects. The industry is bigger than it's ever been - sickening. These women continue to send the message to men that has been perpetuated for eons - "I am an object. My sole purpose is to arrouse/please you. My greatest assetts are my tits and vag. I don't need to bog you down with intelligent conversation or challenge you in any way. You don't need to impress me or love or respect me. I am not a person - I am a toy. Use me how you will." It absolutely disgusts me that a) there are so many women out there doing this to the female image and b) that there are so many men who just eat it up and c) that our culture is at the point where it's not even frowned upon. so so so sad.
